Alex Marshall (2017)

Alex Marshall (2017) has long proven her leadership capabilities, both as a school captain at Sacred Heart College and now as the Greens’ candidate for the recent Federal election in Corangamite.

Alex was delighted by the election results for her party, which achieved a swing of +6.5%, according to the Australian Electoral Commission. She is not ruling out running for the Greens again in future elections.

Having commenced her foray into politics working on grassroots campaigns such as Fight for the Bight, Alex ran for election in the Surf Coast Shire’s 2019 by-election. Alex previously worked as a disability support worker, and is currently studying commerce part-time and working as an Operations Manager for a registered not for profit organisation dedicated to the protection of Australia’s waves and beaches.

While at SHC Alex loved participating in extra-curricular activities, especially anything involving the climate and the protection of the environment. She felt supported by the staff at SHC, who encouraged her ambitious drive and leadership qualities. Alex remembers her time at SHC fondly, and still keeps in contact with friends she made during her time at school – she currently shares a house with her best friend from SHC.

When asked what she would like to say to the current students of SHC, Alex says she would encourage them to make the most of their time here and try not to take things too seriously. She also says it’s perfectly fine to make mistakes, as you can always learn from them.

The College is proud of Alex’s achievements and dedication - she knows what it takes to create effective change and is a testament to our school motto: educating girls to make a difference.
