Communication Pathways: Supporting Your Child's Learning and Wellbeing

At Sacred Heart we believe that a strong partnership between home and school is vital for every student's success and happiness. We understand that from time to time, you may have questions or concerns regarding student progress or emotional wellbeing.

To help ensure your enquiries are addressed promptly and by the person best equipped to help, please refer to our communication pathways below.

Where Do I Start?

  • For Learning Concerns: Please contact the student's Subject Teacher via email. They have direct, day-to-day insight into students' academic progress, coursework and classroom engagement.
  • For Wellbeing Concerns: Please contact the student's Mentor Group Teacher via email. They hold the holistic view of students' daily school experience, peer interactions and overall pastoral care.

A Network of Support

Our teachers do not work in isolation. They are backed by a robust network of professionals, including the College Leadership Team.

While your first point of contact will always be the Subject Teacher (for learning) or the Mentor Group Teacher (for wellbeing), please rest assured that the team at Sacred Heart works closely together. Where required, teachers will involve leadership and specialist staff to ensure any concerns are thoroughly addressed and resolved.

How to Contact Your Student's Teacher

To send an email, please follow these steps, which are also shown in the image below:

  1. Log in to the web portal or open the App
  2. Click the 'Send email to child's teachers' (desktop) or 'Shortcuts' then 'Send email' (App). A new window will appear with your student's teachers pre-selected as recipients.
  3. Write your message and send it directly to the staff member.

Thank you for your continued partnership as we work together to support your student's journey at Sacred Heart.

GAT, Unit 1 Exams and MYP4 Exams

The General Achievement Test (GAT) will take place on Tuesday 16 June, and is for ALL students completing a Unit 3 and 4 sequence. The General Achievement Test (GAT) is a compulsory, standardised test taken by senior high school students in Victoria, Australia (under the VCAA). It is a unique exam because it doesn't test on specific Year 12 subjects, but instead measures a student's general knowledge, critical thinking, literacy, and numeracy skills.

MYP4 and Unit 1 Exams will be held from Wednesday 17 June to Monday 22 June

Please click on the Read More options below for important information regarding these assessments.

The General Achievement Test (GAT) will take place on Tuesday 16 June, with MYP4 and Unit 1 Exams following on Wednesday 17 June to Monday 22 June.

The MYP4 and Unit 1 Exam Schedules can be accessed by clicking the links below:
MYP4 Exam Timetable
Unit 1 Exam Timetable

All exams, including the GAT, will be held in the Sports and Wellness Centre. This is intentional. We want students to experience a formal assessment environment that supports the development of strong exam routines, confidence and readiness for future senior assessment.

These exams are an important part of our learning and assessment culture. They provide students with the opportunity to:

  • Practise preparing for and sitting formal assessments.
  • Demonstrate what they know and can do under exam conditions.
  • Receive feedback on their progress.
  • Build confidence, organisation and exam readiness over time.

For MYP4 students, exam results will not be included in the Statement of Achievement this semester. Instead, families will receive a separate exam report in early Term Three. This report will provide clear information on student achievement in the exams, with MYP4 results reported using MYP levels and Unit 1 results reported as percentages.

This approach allows us to maintain the rigour and importance of the exam experience while also ensuring that reporting remains fair, consistent and manageable across all subjects.

We also understand that students experience formal assessments in different ways. Students with diverse learning needs will continue to be supported through the appropriate processes, including adjustments and provisions where required. Staff will also monitor students throughout the exam period and provide support where needed.

We encourage families to speak with their child about the importance of preparing steadily, attending exams on time, bringing the required materials and approaching the exam period as a valuable learning experience.

Thank you for your support as we continue to build a consistent, transparent and meaningful assessment culture at the College.

Date: Tuesday 16 June
Location: Sports and Wellness Precinct

The General Achievement Test (GAT) is for ALL students completing a Unit 3 and 4 sequence. This includes students who are accelerating in a subject, unscored, completing a VET subject or completing the Vocational Major. All other students are not required at school on this day.

The GAT is a general knowledge test used by the VCAA to ensure VCE results are fair and accurate. It acts as an ‘insurance policy’, providing a backup score if a student is sick or injured during final exams. It is also used to moderate internal marks and to certify that you have met basic literacy and numeracy standards for graduation. The GAT does not contribute to an ATAR score.

Vocational Major students and unscored students are only required to complete Section A.

Section A: Literacy (Reading and Writing) and Numeracy

Reading time: 9.00am to 9.15am
Writing time: 9.15am to 11.15am

Section A has:

  • one writing task with two parts
  • 50 numeracy multiple-choice questions
  • 50 reading multiple-choice questions.

Break: 11.15am to 1.15 pm

Writing time: 1.30pm to 3.00pm

  • 25 mathematics, science and technology multiple-choice questions
  • 25 arts and humanities multiple-choice questions.

2026 myLearning Journey

My Learning Journey (MLJ) at Sacred Heart College empowers students to design their unique learning pathway for the coming years, building on their passions, capabilities and strengths. Recognising the diverse nature of individual learning journeys, the College offers opportunities to create personalised programs based on learner readiness.

MLJ is a structured framework guiding students’ overall school experience. This approach shapes their education by integrating subject selection, faith, wellness and extracurricular programs, with carefully designed core requirements and electives that link choices to future aspirations.

Comprehensive support is available through a dedicated MLJ website, subject portal, mentor guidance and data-informed teacher recommendations for students and families. Events such as the Subject and Careers Expos, alongside individual consultations, further assist with pathway planning.

  • Clairvaux: Catholic Care – Settle Well Program
  • Loyola: Mercy Works – Programs in PNG
  • Padua: Bahay Tuluyan Philippines Australia
  • Siena: McAuley Community Services for Women

Our students have been inspired by our guest speakers, whose stories remind us of our 2026 theme, Lead the Change, Be the Difference, calling us to respond to others with compassion, justice and action. As Catherine McAuley said, "We can never say, ‘it is enough’."

If you are able, we would greatly appreciate any donation to support your child’s House Mercy Works organisation. Every contribution makes a meaningful difference both locally and globally. Thank you for your continued generosity and support.
