The Cecilia Circle Bequest Program honours the Poynton family, celebrating a 100-year legacy of faith and service at Sacred Heart. The program is anchored by the life of Sister Mary Ita (Kathleen Poynton), a distinguished alumni and Sister of Mercy.
A dedicated educator and former Provincial of the Melbourne Congregation, Sister Mary Ita was known for her prayerful wisdom and lifelong devotion to the College. The Poynton connection spans generations, from Sister Ita’s nephew Barrie, to former Head Prefect Margaret (McCarthy) and their daughter Rebecca.
As the program's Patron Family, the Poyntons embody the spirit of the Cecilia Circle. Their enduring support ensures that the real and lasting difference made by the Sisters of Mercy continues to thrive through future generations of education and care.
