At Sacred Heart, leadership is an opportunity accessible to every student. Moving beyond traditional, strictly hierarchical school models, our unique approach is founded on collaboration, mentorship and personal growth. Leadership positions from Year 7 through to Year 12 are appointed based on a student’s unique skill set, authentic passions and personal interests, rather than solely on their year level. This cross-age structure ensures that genuine student voice and agency remain at the very heart of our College’s ongoing development.
Students are invited to contribute to the College's strategic and cultural fabric through a diverse range of specialised portfolios. The six leadership groups include: House Leaders, Mercy and Mission Leaders, Community Engagement Leaders, Caring Communities Leaders, Learning Leaders and FIRE Carriers.
True leadership is rooted in service and safe relationships. Beyond our primary leadership groups, we nurture student agency and connection through pivotal and specialised support groups. These two support groups include our Peer Support Leaders and the Student-led Child Safety Committee.
Peer Support Leaders serve as positive role models who exemplify our Colleges' Mercy Values, maintain high standards of personal presentation and treat all community members with respect. This role focuses on fostering inclusive, safe and respectful relationships, with a primary emphasis on guiding Year 7 students through their transition from primary to secondary school.
Key responsibilities include: mentoring and checking in on Year 7 students, supporting them through the transition phase from primary to secondary and collaborating with the empowerment team to improve program outcomes.
The Student-Led Child Safety Committee ensures that student voices are actively embedded in all College decisions regarding safety and wellbeing. This team provides a vital platform for students to share insights into their lived experiences, helping shape College policies and ensuring that safety initiatives are directly informed by the student body.
Key responsibilities include: collaborating with staff and College leaders to review and contribute to College policies, serving as a trusted channel for students to raise concerns, and proactively identifying environmental or social risks and swiftly responding to foster a safe, inclusive and supportive space for all students.
By offering this expansive, multi-tiered framework, Sacred Heart equips every student with the practical skills, emotional intelligence and professional confidence required to lead dynamically, collaborate effectively and serve with integrity both within our walls and throughout the wider global community.
