Equity Scholarship Program

As the largest Catholic girls’ school in Geelong, we continue to uphold the vision and guiding principles of our foundress, Catherine McAuley. Catherine believed in the education of women. She appreciated the unique contribution they were capable of making on behalf of society and she wanted to empower them – in whatever sphere they found themselves – to affect a shift towards a more just society.

Celebrating 160+ years of Mercy education, Sacred Heart College Geelong still seeks to provide greater learning opportunities for those in need through our Equity Scholarship Program.

Inclusion and Diversity Scholarship Program

To ensure our school promotes an inclusive curriculum that reflects the cultural, linguistic and religious diversity of Greater Geelong, we have developed a new Inclusion and Diversity Scholarship program.

For refugee families, experiencing a new country and culture and understanding the education system can be very challenging. In fact, it is often the primary barrier to student learning.

The College’s Inclusion and Diversity Scholarship program welcomes, enables and supports refugee children to learn in a nurturing environment. Opportunities are now available for refugees to apply for a fully-funded scholarship that will allow them to explore cultures and beliefs that may be different from their own.

The scholarship provides:

  • Personalised transition programs
  • Pastoral support groups for students and their families
  • A new arrivals’ program that offers intensive English as an Additional Language (EAL)
  • Social/emotional learning programs, counselling, mentoring and ‘buddy’ supports as well as refugee family engagement.

The Cecilia Circle

In October 2022, the College launched the Cecilia Circle Bequest Program and proudly announced the Poynton Family as the new patrons. May the family legacy continue to live on through the Cecilia Circle and honour the faith and service of Sr Ita.

Class of 1976 Gift

The Class of 1976 has established a scholarship program to help support the child of a refugee family to attend Sacred Heart College. The first recipient of the scholarship was enrolled in 2015 and the aim of the scholarship is to provide her uniform, books and support with tuition fees for the duration of her time at the College.

Class of 1997 Gift – Natalie Shekel Scholarship

The Class of 1997 has established a scholarship in honour of former College Captain Natalie Shekel who died tragically in a road accident in 2013. The scholarship is known as the Natalie Shekel Scholarship for Excellence in Humanities and is awarded each year to a student studying in Year 12.

Please email the College on info@shcgeelong.catholic.edu.au if you would like to make an annual, ongoing gift towards a scholarship for a student at Sacred Heart College.

All proceeds will be directed to the school’s Scholarship Fund to assist families facing financial hardship during the current pandemic.

The ‘gift of a rose’ from 50 families will provide an education for one student for an entire year. Donors will have their name inscribed on the back of their rose label or can choose to have the inscription in honour of someone.
