Forming part of the North Wing built in 1871, the Bishop's Parlour earned its name as the designated room for the first Archbishop of Melbourne, Archbishop Goold, and subsequent bishops. It served as their residence when visiting Geelong or when staying overnight while travelling to Colac and other regions of the Western District.
A sense of this long history is preserved on the walls, which display portraits and photographs of all the Archbishops of Melbourne right up to the present day.
The Mantelpiece
Adorning the mantelpiece is an elegant alabaster statue of the Archangel Gabriel.
The Bookcase
The historic bookcase houses a collection of antique silverware, with several pieces tracing their provenance back to Geelong's early priests. It also holds a number of old, bound volumes of the Penny Cyclopaedia and historic Latin texts.
