The strength of a school community is measured not just by its traditions, but by the bonds formed across generations of students, perfectly demonstrated through our vertical Mentor Groups. Another example was the recent launch of our inaugural Legacy Event. Bringing together our youngest cohorts - our Year 7s - and our graduating Class of 2026, the day was designed as an inspiring celebration of connection, guidance and shared heritage.
The Legacy Event created a dedicated space for dynamic mentorship and genuine dialogue. For our Year 12 seniors, the occasion offered a poignant opportunity to look back over their educational journey. Reflecting on their favourite SHC moments, the Class of 2026 shared heartfelt stories that captured the true spirit of our college.
For our Year 7 students, who are still charting their own unique path in high school, the event served as a rich source of wisdom for the road ahead. Sitting side by side with the seniors, Year 7s had the chance to ask candid questions about navigating academic challenges, building meaningful friendships and embracing every opportunity school life at SHC presents. The Year 12 mentors offered grounded, practical advice, reminding the younger students that while the years fly by quickly, being part of the SHC family means never having to walk the journey alone.
All students contributed to a beautiful mural displaying our 2026 College theme, 'Lead the Change. Be the Difference.' It is a motto these SHC students will carry with them, whether throughout the years ahead for our Year 7s, or as our Year 12s leave the College gates for the final time next week.
The event beautifully highlighted the sense of continuity that defines our community: a legacy passed down from those preparing to step out into the world beyond SHC, to those who have this year just begun their high school adventure. It reinforced the core belief that every student contributes to a shared story that spans well beyond individual year levels.
As our Class of 2026 prepare for their final milestones and graduation over the coming weeks, this Legacy Event ensures that their influence and wisdom will continue for years to come. Meanwhile, our Year 7s walk away with renewed confidence, valuable perspective and a deeper connection to their school.
Ultimately, the day celebrated the heart of what makes Sacred Heart College so special - our unwavering commitment to community, leadership and mutual support. We look forward to watching this meaningful new tradition grow and inspire future generations.
