Enrolments College Tours

Building on the vibrant momentum of previous years, the Sacred Heart College community once again came together to celebrate IDAHOBIT Day (International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia, and Transphobia) for 2026. This year, the Atrium was transformed into a bustling hub of solidarity and color during a special lunchtime event. Hosted by our dedicated Free To Be Me student group, the celebration shone a vital light on the experiences of young LGBTQIA+ people, actively challenged discrimination, and proudly celebrated identity.

The Atrium was alive with energy as students and staff engaged in a variety of creative and interactive activities. However, beneath the festive atmosphere lay a deeper, more profound purpose rooted in this year's powerful global theme: At the Heart of Democracy. This theme reminded our community that a true democracy relies on protection, freedom, and equal rights for all people—meaning that LGBTQIA+ human rights are not separate issues, but are fundamentally essential to a just and democratic society.

A Culture of Safety and Allyship

As a designated Respectful Relationships school, Sacred Heart College is deeply committed to promoting a culture of inclusion, equity, and diversity. We firmly believe that every young person deserves an educational environment where they can feel completely safe, authentic, and accepted.

Aligning with the idea that equality sits at the heart of democracy, this year’s event served as a powerful reminder of the importance of active allyship. True democracy requires standing up against all forms of discrimination to ensure everyone has a voice. Through informative discussions and shared personal reflections, the event encouraged the wider school community to deepen their understanding of the unique challenges still faced by LGBTQIA+ individuals. It was an explicit invitation for both students and staff to renew their personal commitment to being part of a fiercely supportive, democratic, and respectful community.

A Shared Commitment to Social Justice

The immense energy, enthusiasm, and warmth displayed by the student body throughout the day highlighted the college's ongoing dedication to empathy and social justice. Seeing students from all year levels stand side-by-side in solidarity proved that our collective voice for equality grows stronger each year.

Events like IDAHOBIT Day are absolutely vital in shaping a learning environment where every single individual is seen, heard, and valued—regardless of their sexuality, gender identity, or background. By providing spaces that elevate these voices, we help dismantle stereotypes and replace them with mutual respect, strengthening the very fabric of our school community.

As we look forward, the success of the 2026 celebration reinforces our shared mission. Together, we continue to foster an enduring school culture where diversity is not just something we tolerate or accept, but a beautiful aspect of our humanity that we wholeheartedly embrace. Thank you to the Free To Be Me team and everyone who participated in making this year's event a meaningful milestone in our school's journey toward true inclusion.
