Enrolments College Tours

The senior years of secondary school are often characterised by a relentless momentum. Between academic demands, co-curricular commitments, and the shifting landscape of social dynamics, students rarely find the time to simply pause. It is within this fast-paced environment that the Year 11 Renewal Program serves as a vital circuit-breaker. The primary aim of the program is to provide students with a deliberate opportunity to step away from their hectic routines, look inward, and reflect deeply on what truly matters in their lives. By creating a dedicated space for both solitary contemplation and collaborative engagement, the Renewal Program empowers the cohort to strengthen their personal foundations while collectively preparing to lead positive change within their school and broader communities.

Personal and Collective Foundations: Communication and Empathy

At an individual level, the Renewal Program functions as a sanctuary for self-discovery. Through guided reflections and quiet intervals, students are encouraged to examine their internal compasses and gain clarity on their core values. They look closely at the principles that guide their decisions, the relationships that sustain them, and the aspirations that give them purpose. This process of introspection is not merely about identifying strengths; it is about uncovering a quiet resilience. By confronting their vulnerabilities in a safe, non-judgmental environment, students discover the inner fortitude required to face personal challenges and future uncertainties with quiet confidence.

While personal introspection is critical, true growth does not occur in isolation. Therefore, the collective aims of the day focus heavily on dismantling the invisible social barriers that naturally form over years of schooling. To facilitate this, the program introduces collaborative challenges designed to shake up routine interactions. In exercises such as The Art of Communicating, students sit back-to-back, relying entirely on descriptive language to replicate a hidden drawing. This is followed by structured peer interviews where students are urged to partner with someone outside their immediate friendship circle, listening intently enough to introduce their partner to the wider group. The debrief of these activities drives home a transformative realisation: being genuinely heard makes a person feel valued, safe, and visible. By cultivating this deep empathy, the cohort begins to construct a supportive peer network where every single student feels seen and respected.

Inspired by Example: Sam Clear’s Journey of Unity

To further deepen these themes of connection and perseverance, the Year 11 cohort was privileged to hear from guest speaker Sam Clear. Known globally for his extraordinary journey walking 15,600 kilometres around the world to promote unity, Sam delivered an incredibly impactful presentation that perfectly mirrored the day's objectives.

Sam shared gripping stories of the immense physical, cultural, and psychological barriers he faced on his journey, ranging from extreme weather conditions to encounters with hostile individuals. Yet, his core message was not about the physical feat itself, but about the profound power of human connection, vulnerability and mutual respect. He challenged the Year 11 students to recognize that just as he had to navigate diverse and often divided communities on foot, they too must navigate their own diverse cohort with open minds and compassionate hearts. Sam’s testimony vividly demonstrated that breaking down barriers and striving for unity requires immense courage, reinforcing the idea that they cannot 'Be the Difference' unless they are willing to step outside their comfort zones.

Aligning with Faith: David, Goliath, and the Closing Liturgy

Ultimately, these personal insights and collective experiences converge to breathe life into the school theme: 'Lead the Change. Be the Difference.' This connection was beautifully illustrated through the timeless scripture story of David and Goliath, which students explored early in the program. David’s triumph reveals that standing up to life's 'giants' - whether those giants are peer pressure, self-doubt, or systemic injustices - does not require the heaviest armour or the most aggressive stance. David succeeded because he remained authentic, relied on his faith and acted with quiet, grounded conviction.

To conclude the Renewal, the cohort gathered for a final liturgy. This sacred space provided a formal opportunity to bookend their reflections, offering up their personal prayers, collective intentions, and newfound insights to God. Surrounded by their peers, students participated in a shared blessing, symbolically committing to look out for one another and to carry the spirit of the Renewal back into their daily lives.

Armed with the lessons of active listening, inspired by Sam Clear’s message of unity, and anchored by the final liturgy, the Year 11 cohort returned to their routines not just as individual students, but as a cohesive, empathetic community ready to uniquely lead positive change.
