Our Year 12s have had a couple of fun final weeks, filling the campus with spirit, nostalgia and celebration as they marked the end of their secondary schooling journey.
Celebrations kicked off on Tuesday with the inaugural Year 12 and Year 7 Legacy Event, bringing together our graduating students and our newest cohort. It was a chance for the Year 12s to look back on their time at SHC and impart their knowledge to the Year 7s, who were eager to receive any advice the older students gave.
The Year 12s engaged in focused preparation and reflection during their final Year 12 Seminar Day, where they looked beyond the gates of SHC and the many possibilities that awaited them.
A couple of days followed where the students could literally let their hair down. Thursday saw them sporting pigtails, bringing a fun touch of primary school nostalgia to campus. They finished the week the following day in vibrant fashion, celebrating Crazy Hair and Wigs Day.
On Monday, creative alternative stationery holders were on full display for Anything but a Pencil Case Day. The cohort also participated in House farewells, banner signing and took their official House and Year Level group photographs.
Adding extra shine with the Touch of Glitter and Glam / Weekend Jewellery theme on Tuesday, the Year 12s met for the final time for their final Mentor Group session. Lunchtime featured the highly anticipated Staff vs. Year 12s Dodgeball match, which was extremely well attended and supported by both students and staff alike. This is always a highly-anticipated event for staff and students, with many loud cheers for both sides and lots of laughter!
Wednesday was the final day of official classes for the Year 12s, a momentous milestone to reach. This was followed by the opening of their Year 7 Time Capsules and Remember When booklets. It was lovely to look back on how far they had all come since filling out their time capsule all those years ago. At lunchtime a pop-up uniform shop was operated to raise funds for our sister school in Timor Leste. The day concluded reflectively with a final Mass together in the Chapel.
Thursday saw our Year 12 cohort came together for an unforgettable Celebration Day, filling the school campus with energy and creativity as students arrived dressed in their amazing costumes. The morning began with a delicious pancake breakfast, providing much needed fuel for the big day ahead. Students took a trip down memory lane as they got together for their Year 7 class photos, and participated in the traditional white t-shirt signing.
At recess, the cohort gathered for a picnic before diving into the next fun activities, which included racing through an inflatable obstacle course and striking poses in the photo booth. The celebration continued with a disco and group dancing session, followed by the presentation of the Year 12 Student Awards and a screening of the Year Level video, both of which were quite emotional for them all.
During Mentor Group time, the Year 12s kicked off the annual Walkathon, walking the first lap before the rest of the school joined in. In doing so they fully embraced the 2026 College theme of Lead the Change. Be the Difference. It was their final Mercy initiative at SHC, but the beginning of a lifelong journey of carrying Mercy into the world. The Walkathon was also a fantastic way to see all the many and varied costumes of the students as they made their way around the main oval, adding a fun atmosphere to the event.
After refuelling at the Burger Bar for lunch, students left a creative mark on campus by designing a colourful chalk mural on the concrete outside Talbot Gym. The unforgettable day wrapped up in fun fashion with an epic colour run and slip and slide.
Tomorrow the Year 12s will have their final day as students of SHC. It will mark an emotional and memorable milestone as the graduating class officially finish their secondary schooling journey. The morning will commence with a special Alumni breakfast, where they will be welcomed into the alumni community.
Following breakfast, the school will gather for the Transfer of Leadership Assembly, where student leadership responsibilities will be officially handed over to the incoming cohort.
The community will then come together for the Year 12 Final Assembly to celebrate our graduating class. To conclude this significant day, staff and students will line the pathways across campus for a heartwarming Guard of Honour, to cheer and applaud as the Year 12s depart through the school gates as students for the very last time.
