We place much importance on Faith Days here at Sacred Heart, believing that they are vital to fostering a deeper spiritual connection within the College. These dedicated days allow our students to reflect, collaborate and grow in their personal faith through prayer, discussion and shared service.
Recently, it was the Year 7's turn to experience their very first Faith Day, to which they arrived with enthusiasm and a willingness to learn. The day was filled with arts and crafts activities, which centred primarily on Catholic symbols. Felt hearts representing the Sacred Heart were stitched together, rosary bracelets of beads were constructed and stained glass windows were produced in beautiful and vibrant colours. Ideas for the windows were not hard to find, with the magnificent stained-glass window of the Chapel and the similarly beautiful window in the Innovation Precinct providing plenty of inspiration.
The over-riding theme of the Year 7 Faith Day was of Mary, the mother of Jesus. Throughout the day the students learned about the importance the Catholic faith places on Mary. Each activity helped to explore the story of Mary and the role she played in the life of Jesus, and the different ways this gives meaning to followers of the Catholic tradition.
The students took part in a Gospel Contemplation about the Annunciation. The Annunciation is when the Archangel Gabriel visited the Virgin Mary in Nazareth to announce that she would conceive and give birth to Jesus Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit. After listening to the scripture passage from Luke 1:26-38 describing this event, the students were invited to use their imagination to enter the scene, to take part and to let the scene unfold.
The day concluded with a thoughtful liturgy, again centred on Mary. Students gathered in quiet reflection to contemplate her example of faith, devotion and courage. Through student-led readings, reflective prayer and beautiful music, the service provided a peaceful and meaningful conclusion to an inspiring Faith Day.
