What you need to know

  • If your daughter is not experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, they can continue to attend school, but you should monitor for symptoms.
  • Students who show symptoms of COVID-19 cannot attend school and should get tested immediately and isolate until they receive a negative result.
  • Students should continue with twice-a-week rapid antigen testing on school days. Families are not required to provide test results unless they are positive.
  • Students who have tested positive for COVID-19, and have completed their 7-day isolation period, do not need to undertake rapid antigen test (RAT) screening for 12 weeks after their release from isolation.

This video provides helpful guidance on how to conduct a Rapid Antigen Test.

If a student returns a positive result, they have COVID-19 and must isolate for seven (7) days and not attend onsite school during that period.

  • Students who are required to isolate will be supported in the same way as students with an extended absence due to illness or injury – zoom links to classes and learning materials will be provided via CANVAS to support continued learning

  • Staff/students should refrain from returning to school if they remain symptomatic.

Reporting your daughter’s positive test

Notifying the College of Absences

Families are asked to contact the school via email info@shcgeelong.catholic.edu.au or SMS 0419 959 693 to advise one of the following categories:

  • Category 1 - General absence, eg appointment, unwell (non COVID-related)
  • Category 2 - COVID Positive
  • Category 3 - COVID Personal Close Contact (students are permitted to be at school but are required to wear a mask)

If your child is a household contact

  • Students who are household contacts of a COVID-19 case are not required to quarantine. They may return to school as long as they undertake a rapid antigen test five times during their 7-day period
  • Students are required to notify the school that they are a household contact
  • Students who are household contacts are required to wear face masks when indoors at school unless they have a valid exemption
  • If a student household contact returns a positive RAT result, they must isolate for 7 days.

Financial Assistance

As a College, we understand that the Coronavirus is having a significant financial impact on our families and members of our community. I ask our families who are experiencing financial hardship to please contact the College so that we may assist. Further details are available via the online FAQ for families.

Communication with Families about Positive Case(s)

In line with Government guidelines, the College must notify the school community via a daily email (where applicable) when a student or staff member has returned a positive COVID-19 test result. No confidential staff or student information will be disclosed.

Please note: Friday's COVID-19 positive notification will be included in the Principal's Update rather than via a separate email.

Third-dose Vaccinations Now Available to 16–17 Year Olds

The College continues to work hard to ensure that our school is as safe as it can be for our students and staff. This includes improving classroom ventilation with air purifiers and supporting vital COVID-safe steps, including the use of regular rapid antigen testing, mask wearing and physical distancing.

Thank you to our families for supporting your children with these steps – they are not always easy but are essential to help keep our school safe and open, and to avoid the disruptions of remote learning.

Helping your child to get vaccinated is one of the most important steps we can all take to give children direct protection against COVID-19. Almost 97% of all 12- to 18-year-olds have now had their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and more than 93% are fully vaccinated. This is a phenomenal rate of protection for our older students, who couldn’t have done it without the support of their families.

COVID-19 third-dose vaccinations are now available for 16- and 17-year-olds who had their second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine three or more months ago. I encourage students aged 16 and older to get their third vaccination, if they haven’t already done so.

A third dose will help maintain their protection against COVID-19, ensuring that we can help slow the spread of COVID-19, so your child can spend more time in school with their teachers and friends at this important part of their schooling life.
