We have been delighted to host a group of visiting Italian exchange students from Istituto San Giovanni Bosco from Colle di Val d'Elsa, Siena for an inspiring ten days filled with learning, adventure and meaningful cultural exchange. The visit provided both the visiting students and the SHC community with an unforgettable opportunity to build global friendships and share unique experiences.
Throughout their stay, the Italian students were warmly welcomed into the school community, shadowing their host sisters to experience a typical day in Australian secondary education. Beyond standard lessons, the visitors also immersed themselves in a range of classes especially catered to our special guests, including the Makerspace, Science, Art and Food Technology.
The trip was packed with exciting excursions that showcased Victoria’s culture, wildlife and natural beauty, including Ballarat Wildlife Park, the Great Ocean Road and a day out in Melbourne.
A central part of the exchange was the warm hospitality provided by Sacred Heart host families. Over the weekend, the Italian students spent quality time with their host sisters and families, taking part in local weekend activities, exploring the Geelong region and getting an authentic taste of everyday Australian life.
The exchange program concluded with a special farewell picnic, with host sisters, their families and their new Italian friends gathering together in the Atrium to reflect on the week's highlights and celebrate the bonds formed during the trip.
As the Italian students departed, they left behind fond memories, newly forged international friendships and a rich connection between Sacred Heart College Geelong and their hometown in Siena.
