Enrolments College Tours

On Thursday 21 May, the rich musical traditions of Geelong’s secondary schools converged here at Sacred Heart College for an unforgettable Combined Choral Day. Bringing together vocalists from Sacred Heart College, St Joseph’s College, Clonard College, Belmont High School, and Oberon High School, the initiative transformed standard music education into a collaborative festival of harmony, unity and shared performance.

Hosted in McAuley Hall, the day served as an intensive workshop and networking opportunity for young musicians. Singing alongside peers from four other schools exposed students to a wider array of conducting styles, vocal techniques, and choral arrangements than a single school environment can typically offer.

The Evening Showcase

The day culminated in an evening showcase attended by family, friends and staff. Each school choir took the stage to highlight their individual style, presenting a range of material spanning a variety of styles and arrangements.

The highlight of the night came during the grand finale, when singers from all five schools assembled on stage. The massed choir delivered a powerful closing set that filled the hall, proving the strength of Geelong's inter-school arts community. It was apt that the final song of the evening was 'You Can't Stop the Beat', a fitting sentiment we're sure all these talented singers swear by!

Events like the Combined Choral Day reinforce the vital role of performing arts in local education. By breaking down school borders and uniting through music, the young singers of Geelong demonstrated the remarkable art that happens when a community sings with one voice.
