May was a month of incredible talent, hard work and delicious triumphs for our Year 12 VCE Vocational Major (VM) students. From high-stakes baking battles to hosting refined charity events, these students truly showcased their versatility and community spirit.

The Ultimate Baking Battle: Cake Wars!

The annual Cake Wars competition saw our students put their math skills to the test in the most delicious way possible. By blending creativity with their Numeracy curriculum, students became master designers and architects of confectionery.

Before picking up a single spatula, the teams had to:

  • Create precise scale drawings of their dream designs.
  • Calculate the exact volume and total surface area of their structures.
  • Compute precise ingredient quantities and forecast the total production cost.

The final results were nothing short of spectacular! They created masterpieces of both engineering and flavour that tasted just as amazing as they looked!

Elegance for a Cause: The Charity High Tea

Earlier in the month, the energy shifted from the competitive kitchen to the refined atmosphere of Celies Dining Room, where students hosted an elegant High Tea event. Partnering with the St John of God Geelong Hospital Auxiliary, the class organized the afternoon to raise vital funds for the hospital's inspiring Cartwheels Art Program.

Guests were welcomed with bubbles on arrival before being treated to a beautiful, tiered spread of savoury bites, classic finger sandwiches, and exquisite sweets. Every detail was meticulously planned and flawlessly executed.

We are incredibly proud of our Year 12 VCE VM students. They didn't just host an esteemed, sophisticated event and ace their practical math applications - they used their skills to give back to the Geelong community in a meaningful way.
