Our Year 9 students scaled new heights and showed immense resilience at their recent camp at The Summit. This camp marks a pivotal milestone in the middle-years journey, offering students a dedicated space to step outside their comfort zones, strengthen peer relationships and discover personal resilience. Spanning three days and two nights at The Summit in Trafalgar East, this outdoor adventure experience is intentionally designed around high-energy, team-based activities that foster character growth and collective spirit.

Situated in the picturesque landscape of Gippsland, The Summit provided an outdoor adventure environment built specifically to drive personal transformation through action. Away from everyday classroom routines and digital distractions, students entered a space that challenged them physically and mentally. The camp operated on core principles focused on active participation: having fun, stepping outside one's comfort zone, backing teammates and refusing to give up when tasks became tough. Our students not only hit these targets – they excelled!

Over the course of three action-packed days, students tackled a wide range of adventurous outdoor challenges. Whether navigating giant swings, high-ropes courses, leap-of-faith platforms, or the famous Summit obstacle and mud courses, every initiative demanded enthusiasm and mutual encouragement. Activities were structured to ensure that personal accomplishments were paired with team reliance, challenging students to communicate effectively under pressure, manage stress and celebrate the shared achievements of their cohort.

Year 9 represents an essential transition period in the students' schooling journey, and this experience served as a powerful catalyst for individual growth. The Summit’s trained facilitators guided our Year 9s through debrief sessions following each major activity, helping them translate physical triumphs on the course into real-world mindsets. By pushing past self-imposed limits, conquering fears of heights or physical exhaustion, and encouraging peers through difficult tasks, students built genuine self-confidence, emotional resilience and practical leadership skills.

Equally important to the high-adrenaline thrills were the informal moments of connection. Shared cabin life, evening reflections, and group meals provided valuable opportunities for students to form friendships beyond their usual social circles and connect with teaching staff in a supportive, informal setting.

By the end of the three-day journey, the Year 9 cohort returned home to SHC with a renewed belief in their capacity to handle challenges, leadership and teamwork.
