This term, students in Year 9 embarked on an immersive Transdisciplinary Unit (TDU) focused on entrepreneurship, run in partnership with Future Anything. A TDU is an innovative educational approach that dissolves the traditional boundaries between subject areas, encouraging students to combine skills from humanities, mathematics, design and commerce to tackle complex issues. Through this framework, learning extends beyond theoretical concepts into practical application, empowering students to apply critical thinking and collaborative problem-solving to challenges that exist outside the classroom walls.
Centred on creating business-driven solutions for real-world problems, the unit challenged student teams to identify a pressing issue in society and design a viable, innovative product or service to address it. On Wednesday, the cohort brought their concepts to life at a bustling trade-show. Year 8 students and staff took on the role of judges, evaluating each group based on the viability of their business model, the creativity of their concept, and the overall professionalism and persuasion of their trade-show presentation.
The trade-show served as an exciting showcase of young talent and forward-thinking ideas, highlighting weeks of hard work, market research, and prototype design. Interactive stalls filled the venue as Year 9 entrepreneurs pitched their ideas directly to prospective 'investors' and peers. The judges had the difficult task of scoring each team, looking closely for unique value propositions, engaging presentation styles, and solutions with genuine potential for social impact.
Building on the success of the trade-show, the top-performing finalist teams will advance to the ultimate stage of the competition. On Wednesday 19 August, these finalists will take the stage in McAuley Hall for a high-stakes, 'Shark Tank'-style pitch event before an expert panel. All members of the school community - families, staff and friends - are warmly invited to attend this inspiring evening and support our young innovators as they pitch for success.
