Mercy in Action

Congratulations to SHC staff member Laura Torresi who recently was awarded the very first 'Longie' award from ABC Radio Melbourne. The 'Longie' is the Geelong version of the 'Melbie', an award given to someone each Friday in recognition of a good deed they performed in the community.

A caller to the radio station named Katrina rang in to nominate Laura for a Melbie (Longie) Award, who had very kindly returned the cards Katrina lost while taking a walk along the beach in Queenscliff. Initially, Katrina didn't know her good Samaritan’s name; all she could remember was that the person said that she worked at Sacred Heart College.

After some detective work by the resourceful Jane at College Reception, it was discovered that the kind person was our very own Laura Torresi, who had found the cards and returned them to Katrina at her house. Katrina said the woman restored her faith in humanity and made her remember that there are still kind and honest humans.

To hear Laura receiving her award, please visit https://www.abc.net.au/melbourne/programs/melbourne-friday-breakfast/friday-breakfast/102146488. Laura can be heard at the 1:52:20 mark.

Well done Laura on your recognition of Mercy in Action. We are so fortunate to have you and so many others like you on our staff. Enjoy your Longie!
