On Friday 13 September 2024, the Department of Defence hosted an exhilarating Army Careers Day at Puckapunyal. This event drew students across Victoria and Albury, NSW, specifically those in Years 9 to 12. It was crafted to illuminate the diverse range of careers available in both full-time and part-time capacities within the Army and Defence.
Students had gained a unique glimpse into the benefits of joining the Australian Army, recognised as one of the world's premier military forces. The day had provided an invaluable chance for one-on-one discussions with members of the Australian Defence Force (ADF), who shared their personal experiences and insights into military life.
Attendees had interacted with the ADF Recruitment team, learning about current job vacancies, salary packages, and benefits. They also explored opportunities for Defence University Sponsorship, the Defence Force Academy, GAP Year programs, and STEM pathways.
Among those attending were 11 SHC students, along with 28 SJC students, who had embarked on the early 7.30am departure. The day had been filled with engaging activities, including the opportunity to ride in Army vehicles and sample an authentic Army-style lunch pack. Students had been able to ask Defence Force staff about their current roles and the career paths they had pursued to reach their positions.
The experience had proven so impactful that some students had already applied for other ADF work experience programs. The Army Careers Day had truly been a gateway to invaluable career pathways, offering students a tangible and exciting glimpse into their potential futures in Defence.
