ANZAC Day - Lest We Forget

This year, ten students from Years 7 to 10, accompanied by teacher Carl Tracey, embarked on a journey to the 92nd Annual ANZAC Commemoration Ceremony for Students. The event, a significant tribute to Australia's courageous service men and women, is designed to provide a unique perspective through the eyes of the youth.

The ceremony, rich with student involvement, featured guest speakers from among the students, performances by school bands and choirs, and the presence of Defence Force cadets. Beyond the formalities, students had the opportunity to delve deeper into the history and significance of ANZAC Day as they explored the Shrine and its visitor centre.

A particularly moving moment was when Liana Loney, representing Sacred Heart, stood as the fire carrier, marking the ceremony's close. This symbolic gesture was a reminder of the enduring spirit of remembrance and respect.

The day was educational and fostered stronger connections among students across different year levels. After the ceremony, a Year 10 student and former legacy ambassador, Sophie Nisbet, took the lead. She guided her peers into the Shrine of Remembrance Visitor Centre, sharing her knowledge and insights. It was a touching experience, witnessing students fully engaged and listening intensively to the stories she shared.

For these young individuals, the day was not just about commemorating history. It was about understanding, appreciating, and carrying forward the legacy of those who served. As they returned, the students had a deeper understanding of ANZAC Day, forged through personal experiences and shared moments of reflection.

On Wednesday 24 April, the entire student body and staff united during the school assembly to honour and remember the sacrifices of our ANZAC heroes. With heads bowed and hearts heavy with respect, we stood in solidarity, reflecting on the bravery and dedication of those who served our nation with unwavering commitment. The assembly hall was still as we collectively observed a moment of silence, a small gesture of gratitude for the immense sacrifices made for our freedom. In this shared moment of reflection, we were reminded of the enduring legacy of the ANZAC spirit, inspiring us to uphold the values of courage, mateship, and sacrifice in our lives.
