Xavier Maguire Roses

On Wednesday 17 September, a group of our Year 11 students had the opportunity to join SHC staff in a very special outreach project. Isla, Lily, Lola, Alexis, Ajak, Evie, Vivien, Evelyn and Ruby teamed up with our dedicated grounds staff, Mick and Carl, to pot 50 Xavier Maguire roses.

This beautiful, cherry-red rose, known for its strong fragrance and bred by Bruce Chapman, was originally commissioned by the College to mark the 150th anniversary of Sacred Heart College Geelong.

Today, the Xavier Maguire rose continues to hold a treasured place in our community, often given as a gift of respect, gratitude, or sympathy in times of bereavement.

The afternoon was more than just gardening; it was an opportunity for our students to connect with one another, learn the art of pruning, contribute to the College grounds, and engage with the heritage and traditions that shape our community.
