While we've focused on our Year 12 students over the first two weeks of this Term, whose formal classes end on Friday, and on marking this time in a significant, celebratory way, we are also focused on the students and families who will begin their journey with Sacred Heart in 2027.
On Tuesday night, over 500 people gathered in the Carmel O'Dwyer Centre of the Sports and Wellness Precinct for the 2027 New Families Welcome Evening. The evening began with a warm cup of coffee or tea, followed by an information session focused on what it means to belong to Sacred Heart College, a Catholic school in the Mercy tradition. Needless to say, the space was charged with positive energy as students and families learned more about our Mercy story. This story is interwoven through the relationships formed in mentor groups, the House system, and rich learning experiences both inside and outside the classroom.
Each week leading up to the end of the school year is action-packed. Over the past two weekends, learning has continued, with both staff and students on site as the College hosted two major events.
The Design Futures Lab featured two installations in Geelong Design Week, bringing members of the wider community onto our College grounds. The installations were aptly named Regenerative Matter(s). They included Pure Potential with Zero Point Yoga, where our students transformed thousands of discarded face masks into an expansive textile installation using sewing, silkscreen printing, and natural dyeing; and the Tiny House Project, a whole-school design and build initiative undertaken in collaboration with industry mentors, including Surf Coast Tiny Homes. Please take a moment to learn more about each inspiring project by clicking the button below.
Our alumni were busy over the weekend. On Saturday, several Alumni Committee members gathered in Celies to prepare meals for Lazarus House. Using ingredients sourced from Feed Me Geelong, the team prepared wholesome meals and sweet treats. We hope this becomes a regular activity for our past pupils to engage with.
We extend our best wishes to our Year 12 students as they move into Readiness Week!
I would also like to invite you once again to our annual Remembrance Service. This service for families who have experienced a bereavement this year will take place on Thursday 5 November 2026 at 7.00pm in the College Chapel. Please RSVP to brvos@shcgeelong.catholic.edu.au by Wednesday 21 October.

Our partnership with We All Rotate in Nepal is a timely reminder of the importance of supporting communities in times of need, particularly following the recent flooding. We keep those affected in our thoughts and prayers.
We warmly invite families to make a donation to their child’s House Mercy Works organisation. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps support the important work of our partners and provides a meaningful way for our community to Lead the Change, Be the Difference. As Catherine McAuley reminds us, We can never say, ‘it is enough'. Please click the links below to view the posters for each House, which includes the QR code to donate.

Sunday 11 October 2026 was International Day of the Girl Child.
We pray for every girl today. Help her to know her true identity in You. Remove insecurity, self-doubt and comparison from her heart. Help her to see herself as valuable, loved, and created with purpose.
Lord, strengthen her confidence and remind her that she is fearfully and wonderfully made. Protect her from negative voices that try to define her wrongly. Fill her heart with truth and self-worth rooted in You. Thank You for creating her with beauty, strength, and purpose. Let her walk in confidence each day.
We pray for the gift of education and learning opportunities for every girl. Open doors for her to attend school, gain knowledge, and grow in wisdom. Remove every barrier that stands in the way of her education. Provide resources, support and encouragement for her learning journey. Lord, help her to love knowledge and excel in her studies.
Finally, we pray for emotional healing for every girl. Heal every hurt, pain and emotional wound in her heart. Restore her confidence and bring peace to her emotions. Help her to let go of past pain and move forward with hope. Surround her with people who love, care and understand her. Lord, fill her heart with joy and stability. Remove sadness, fear, and emotional distress. Restore her completely and make her whole again.
Amen.
